Henrietta Tuck-Miller

December 15, 1922 — August 1, 2011

Henrietta Tuck-Miller of Gulf Breeze passed away on August 1, 2011 at the age of 88. Henrietta was born the youngest of eight children on December 15, 1922, in Elizabeth, NJ, to Henry Carroll Farrand and Blanche Ogden Nixon. In the summer of 1942 she met the first love of her life, U.S.N. Ensign Charles Stuart Tuck at Hampton Beach, NH. They were married March 8, 1943 aboard the USS Charles Carroll in Norfolk, VA. Henrietta was a gifted musician, studied music in New York City and enjoyed a distinguished career as a classical soprano performing soloist roles in the Messiah, Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, and numerous light opera while raising six children. After 38 years of marriage, Mrs. Tuck-Miller was preceded in death by Charles Tuck. She met her second love, husband James Miller and took up skiing while working at the Beaver Creek Colorado Ski School. After 4 years and a new life with friends in Vail, Jim also passed away so she moved to Gulf Breeze, FL to be with three of her children. She is survived by her six children, Henri (Tom) Stone of Gypsum, CO, Susan (Doug) Hadden of Gulf Breeze, FL, Charles (Jeannette)Tuck of Miami, FL, Alana Tuck-Shaw of Gulf Breeze, FL, Jim (Marian) Tuck of Gulf Breeze, FL, and Pete (Cindy)Tuck of Durango, CO. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her gift to all of us was a great love of music, an unshakable ethical foundation, a sense of right and wrong to guide our lives, an overwhelming legacy of pride and love for the United States of America and the U. S. Military who serve us. She was the mother that taught what Ronald Reagan believed when he said "Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us in our time, that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith." Our family would like to thank the staff of the Courtyard in Gulf Breeze and the Specialty Center in Pensacola for their kind, loving care of our mother in her final years. Services will be held on Tuesday August 9, 2011, 10:30 AM, at Rose Lawn Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Rose Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrrangements and online condolences may be expressed at www.roselawn-fh.com. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to our wounded soldiers returning from war. A donation may be made online at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
