Helen Jackson

February 25, 1932 — June 16, 2012

Helen Beth Reeves Jackson, 80, of Gulf Breeze, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at a local hospital after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Mrs. Jackson was born on February 25, 1932 at Route 3, Opp, Alabama, Covington County to Dove Green and Autie Cauley Reeves. She had two older brothers, Dudley Dwight Reeves and Laban Foch Reeves. After attending Fleeta School, she moved to Montgomery in 1946 where she graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1950. In July that year, she married Hoyt Jackson, who was also from Opp, Alabama. They lived in Pensacola until 1962 when they moved to Gulf Breeze, where she resided in the family home on Hoffman Bayou for fifty years. At that location with her extended family, she celebrated fifty years of marriage to her beloved husband in 2000. On February 25, 2012, she celebrated her 80th birthday with her loving family. Since 1955, she was an active member of East Hill Baptist Church where she participated in the Women's Missionary Union. She greatly valued ties with her church friends and the many opportunities for fellowship and service with them. Demonstrating her love for both God and children, she was a leader with Acteens and a Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress and worked in alterations at Gayfer's from 1979 until her retirement in 1992. She enjoyed her work and made many friends while she was there. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband to Nashville, Branson, and various locations in Texas, Kansas, and Florida. She also cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was especially proud of her four children who have remained married to their original spouses. Through the daily newspaper and television, she stayed current on local and national news and closely followed politics. She also enjoyed gardening, crafting, and sewing. She was drawn to anything purple or lavender since those were her favorite colors. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, and her husband of fifty-five years. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Susan Jackson Caverno (Phillip) of Enterprise, Alabama; David Wayne Jackson, Sr. (Karen) of Marianna, Florida; Mary Beth Jackson Marcille (Greg) of Pensacola; and Julie Jackson Holmer (Andrew) of Gulf Breeze. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Beth Caverno, David Jackson, Jr. (Amanda), Jessica Jackson Givens (Gabe), Peter Marcille, Henry Marcille, William Holmer, and Jackson Holmer. She is also survived by a great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Jackson of Marianna, Florida. The family will receive friends and family at Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze on Tuesday, June 19th, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held there at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20th. Special thanks to the dedicated staffs of the Sacred Heart Cancer Center, West Florida Hospital, and Covenant Hospice, with whom Mrs. Jackson battled cancer for seventeen years. Mom, you will live on in our hearts forever. We love you always.
