Gilbert R. Fenters, 90, of Gulf Breeze passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2011. He was born on May 27, 1921 in Niles, MI to Leslie and Maggie Fenters. Gilbert is preceded in death by his beloved wife; Betty Louise, his parents; Leslie and Maggie Fenters, and his brother; Edward C. Fenters. He is survived by his sister; June M. Walters of Niles, MI and several nieces and nephews. E9 Master Chief Fenters retired from the US Navy on October 1, 1969 after completing thirty years of active and inactive service. During his time in the military he served many campaigns; Doolittle Raid on Japan, Task Force Group 16, April 18, 1942 as well as many other famous Island Battles in the Pacific. Upon retiring from the Navy, Gil served with the Gulf Breeze Police Department for approximately six years. After leaving the Police Department he went to work for Monsanto/Solutia and retired after working ten years in the laboratory department. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 31, 2011 from 11:30-12:30 pm with the funeral service immediately following at Rose Lawn Funeral Home, 2942 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, FL, Stephen Olivier will be officiating. Interment with procession will follow at 2:00 pm in Barrancas National Cemetery where Gilbert will receive Military Funeral Honors on behalf of Veterans and his family. Rose Lawn Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
