As a testament to her personality, Gail Bushart Godwin age 73, of Gulf Breeze, Florida, rang in the new year by passing away peacefully in her home on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2025, surrounded by her daughter and close friend while listening to her favorite hymn.
Gail is survived by her daughter, Annie Rose Godwin, and many loved friends and family. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Glynn Bushart of Fulton, Ky and was preceded in death by her husband of twenty six years, Luther Godwin, Jr.
Considering herself a “Florituckian”, Gail graduated from Fulton High School in 1969 and received her Bachelor of Science from Florida Southern in 1973. She began her career as a teacher first at Carr Elementary in Fulton, then at the Sayre School in Lexington. When she moved to Florida, she worked with local businesses, served at Olive Baptist Church and eventually retired as a teacher at Woodlawn Beach Middle School in Gulf Breeze where she was named Teacher of the Year. Go Wildcats!
All her life she loved kids, whether it was teaching or being a foster parent. Gail was known for hosting parties, loving her kitty Sadie and being an active church member. On any given day you could find her dining with friends on the beach or enjoying the sunset in her backyard.
Special thanks to Ascension Sacred Heart, Ascension at Home, White Sands Care Companion, and Vitas Hospice Care for extraordinary care and support during the end of Gail’s journey on earth. She felt loved, seen and most importantly did not walk the path alone.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 1st at 3pm at the United Methodist Church of Gulf Breeze. Daisies were her favorite flower or to donate in lieu of flowers email gailslifecelebration@gmail.com.
