Frank Lequerica, a 20 year resident of Gulf Breeze Florida, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, after a brief illness. He was 87. Frank was born in Buenavista, Cuba on October 23, 1925 to Dr. Francisco Lequerica and Sara Martinez. Frank graduated from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY in 1947 with a degree in Chemical Engineering, the same year he married Catherine Jaques. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on August 23, 2012. Following graduation from RPI, Frank returned to his native Cuba to start a career and a family, until October1960, when he left his beloved Cuba as a political refugee. He worked for American Cyanamid (later America Home Products) first in in Pensacola, Florida (1960- 1966) Barcelona and Madrid, Spain, (1967- 1972) and San Juan, Puerto Rico (1972 -1989) until his retirement. In 1989, he returned to the Pensacola area settling in Gulf Breeze, where he and Catherine enjoyed countless hours on his fishing boat, admiring the sunset or watching his grandchildren play in the bay. Frank is survived by his beloved wife Catherine, at home; his loving son, Frank E. Lequerica and his wife, LaDelle (May) of Memphis, TN; his daughters Carmen Najork and husband, Karl of Newburgh, NY and Kateri Orenstein and husband, Ross of Pensacola, FL; six grandchildren: Sara Najork Kendall, Karl Najork, Frank M. Lequerica, Joe Lequerica, Spencer Orenstein, Elijah Orenstein; and one great- granddaughter, Margaret Kendall. He was predeceased by his sister, Sara Lequerica de la Vega. A gathering for friends and family will take place on March 15, 2013 from 5 to 7:00 PM at Rose Lawn Funeral Home.
