Frances Grissom

FRANCES GUNN GRISSOM Obituary Former long-time resident of Bailey, MS and Gulf Breeze, FL passed away on 14 May 2008 after a long illness in Pensacola, FL, at 91 years of age. She was born in Lauderdale county, Mississippi on 21 October 1916. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilson W. Grissom, her parents, Samuel Jonsey Gunn and Myrtle Williamson Gunn, sisters: Louise Gunn, Carleen Gunn Miles, and Elaine Gunn Grissom; and brothers: Ralph Gunn, and Charley George Gunn. She is survived by her two daughters, Laneve Wirth of Gulf Breeze, FL; Doris Dennis of Harvest, AL; and one son David Grissom; 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; as well as a brother Edward Gunn of Bailey, MS; and sisters: Jewell Gunn Cox of Pensacola, FL and Margaret Gunn McKeithen of Eight Mile, AL; along with numerous nieces and nephews. While a resident of Bailey, MS, Mrs. Grissom was an active member of the Longstreet Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. During this time, she served in several stations within the Eastern Star. She also served as the District Deputy Grand Matron. Mrs. Grissom was a foster mother for many years to dozens of children in Lauderdale County's foster family program. In addition to being a foster parent, she operated a home day care service for working mothers in the Bailey, MS area. Mrs. Grissom was an active member of her church and served as a pre-school Sunday school teacher her entire adult life. She had a profound impact on the spiritual lives of hundreds of children. Graveside services will be held at Rose Lawn Cemetery, 2942 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563, on 19 May 2008 at 10AM. Arrangements entrusted to Rose Lawn Funeral Home of Gulf Breeze.
