Floyd Wayne Wise peacefully passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on November 2, 2022, in Pensacola, FL at the age of 81 with his family surrounding him. His battle with serious medical issues over the years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with grace. Despite the struggles, Floyd came out a hero and stayed strong until the end. He also never lost his incredible sense of humor.

Floyd was proceeded in death by his parents, James and Keron Wise, 2 brothers, Ivan and Kenny Wise and his wife of 58 years, Shirley Jean Wise (Trainor). He is survived by his 5 children Dana Renee Wise of Pensacola, FL, Darin Dewain Wise (Vanessa) of Crestview, FL, Damon Delane Wise (Janet) of Freeport, FL, DeAnn Wise Hammond (Michael) of Greer, SC, and Daryl DeWitt Wise (Katie) of Pensacola, FL. Also left to cherish his memory are his younger brother and sister, David Wise of Memphis, TN, and Janet Thompson (Marty) of Gulf Breeze, FL, as well as his cherished 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, countless cousins, and beloved lifelong friends.

He was born on February 26, 1941, in New Albany, MS to James Willie Wise and Keron Wise (Dunlap). The family moved to Memphis, TN when Floyd was young, and he met the love of his life, Shirley Jean Trainor, on the first day of 8th grade. They dated through high school and married on June 2, 1960.  A couple of years later, they began welcoming their 5 children into their home. In 1975, Floyd and Shirley moved their family to Gulf Breeze, FL and quickly made Florida “home”.

Floyd was a United States Marine and then worked for the United States Postal Service for 38 years. He loved Alabama Football, the Los Angeles Dodgers and was active in every church he attended including being a deacon at each. These include First Baptist Church Gulf Breeze, FL and Wallace Baptist Church in Pace, FL. He was a loyal servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His children will remember him as a sweet and loving man who had a fierce love for his family, instilled his love of sports and God, led by his strong Christian faith.

A funeral is scheduled for November 12, 2022, at Wallace Baptist Church in Pace, FL.  Visitation will start at 10:00AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00AM and a family graveside service at Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze, FL at 2:00PM. The family would like to thank Dr. Jolita Klementaviciene, his longtime Primary Care doctor, Baptist Hospital and the MICU staff including Sue, Caitlyn and Hailey for their wonderful care and amazing kindness. And a special “thank you” to Dr. Patrick Gatmaitan, Dr. John Wade, and Dr. John Gary for their support before and after surgery.
