Everett Earle Gerths, age 77, died Friday November 7, 2014. Moe was born and May 4, 1937, the son of Earle and Flossie (Checkel) Gerths and raised on a farm in Dodge Center, MN. In high school he was active in baseball, basketball, and football. Moe graduated in 1955 with a football scholarship to the University of Minnesota. He majored in Biochemistry and Soils and played left guard and middle linebacker for the Gophers. After graduating in 1959, he served in the Army Reserves for six months. His career took him to Minneapolis, St. Louis, Iran, and Pensacola, FL working as plant manager for ADM, Ashland, Spencer Kellogg, Reichold, and also as an environmental consultant. He was member of the Rotary Club for 27 years receiving the Paul Harris award for service and was also a past club president. Since retirement in 2004, he enjoyed travelling to Alaska, Hawaii, Colorado, North Carolina, Minnesota, the Caribbean, and various National Parks. His favorite hobby was wood-working. This interest led him to spend 13 years building a log cabin near Chipley, FL. This most recent residence allowed him to enjoy forestry projects and the beauty of retirement and nature. Moe was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Jim, and his wife, Elizabeth, who recently passed away after 43 years of marriage. Surviving family includes his younger brother Greg and wife Carrie of Forest Lake, MN, his sister-in law Marla of Owatonna, MN, two daughters, Pam and husband Curt Hemmel with grandchildren Emory and Ethan, and Kim Kent with granddaughter Lauren all living in Florida. Friends may visit on Friday, November 14th from 2:00-3:00 PM at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Gulf Breeze, FL with a graveside service immediately following. Memorials may be made to the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club, PO Box 808, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563.
