In high school he was active in baseball, basketball, and football. Moe graduated in 1955 with a football scholarship to the University of Minnesota. He majored in Biochemistry and Soils and played left guard and middle linebacker for the Gophers. After graduating in 1959, he served in the Army Reserves for six months. Surviving family includes his younger brother Greg and wife Carrie of Forest Lake, MN, his sister-in law Marla of Owatonna, MN, two daughters, Pam and husband Curt Hemmel with grandchildren Emory and Ethan, and Kim Kent with granddaughter Lauren all living in Florida.
