Edwena J. Robertson 1920 - 2010 Edwena J. Robertson of Gulf Breeze, FL passed away Thursday afternoon, March 18, 2010 at the Haven of Our Lady of Peace in Pensacola, FL after a long illness with Alzheimer's. Born in Calvary, GA to the late George Edward Langley and Mattie Herring Langley, she was oldest of three children. She spent most of her life in Georgia and Florida. She graduated from Cairo High School and the University of Georgia with a degree in home economics. She married Robert Ardell Bell who was later killed in World War II. In April 1946, she remarried Elias Richard "Dick" Robertson, Jr. with whom she celebrated their 63rd anniversary. She taught school for eight years prior to moving with her family to Quincy, FL where she served as the Assistant Home Extension Agent for seven years. The family then moved to Pensacola, FL where she served as Head Home Extension Agent for Escambia County for 29 years, retiring Dec. 22, 1990 at age 70. She excelled in her work; and was recruited many times to go to the Head Office of Extension Service at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She refused however, preferring to be at the grass root level where she worked closely with people. She loved people and loved helping them. Because of her outstanding work, she received the Distinguished Service Award, a prestigious designation awarded to Extension Agents by the University of Florida. In addition, the University of Florida awarded her the Professor Emeritus degree. She worked closely with the Pensacola Interstate Fair organization serving on their board. Because of her deep involvement with the Fair, the Edwena J. Robertson Building was named in her honor. She was listed in the Who's Who of American Women, received her Master Gardner designation and a lifetime member of the National Extension Association for Family & Consumer Science, Florida Extension Association for Family & Consumer Service and Florida Home & Community Education Association. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death, just two months ago, by her loving husband and best friend, "Dick" Robertson. Her daughter, Sondra E. Robertson of Sealy, TX preceded her in death, as well as brother Ross Langley and sister Josephine Lee. She is survived by sons Richard E. Robertson of Pensacola, FL; William R. Robertson and wife Janie of Houston, TX; daughter Arwena B. McLean and husband Les of Tallahassee, FL. She was a loving grandmother to Tara Richardson Leibert, Dr. Trent Thomas Richardson, Meredith McLean DaSilva, Leslie Ann McLean Thompson, Cody Patrick Robertson and Shelly Catherine Robertson. She was a great grandmother to Curran, Trevor, Brendan, Gavin and Zoe Leibert, Luke and Kate Richardson, Carson and Langley DaSilva and McLean Thompson. The family would like to thank the staff of the Haven of Our Lady of Peace for all the loving care given to Dick and Edwena during the last years of their lives. Funeral services will be held in Pensacola at 1:30 p.m. CST, Friday, March 26, 2010 at Gadsden Street Methodist Church with Dr. Baxter officiating.
