Donald Ralph Todd, M.D. (Don), of Gulf Breeze, Florida went to heaven to be with the Lord on October 3, 2022, at the age of 83. Don was a Christian and longtime member of McIlwain Presbyterian Church in Pensacola.
Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Hammond Potts Todd, son Warren R. Todd (Belinda), daughter Cindy L. Hayes (Mike), grandsons Colin Hayes and Logan Hayes, sister Sue Johnson (Otis), and brother Richard “Dick” Todd (Sally). He is predeceased by his parents Arthur Ralph and Sadie May Todd.
Don was a board-certified Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgeon) who served the Pensacola area for over 40 years performing surgeries at Sacred Heart Hospital, Baptist Hospital, and Gulf Breeze Hospital. Don had a passion for medicine and thrived when he was helping others. He was patient, kind, thoughtful, and a great listener. Don took great care to listen to his patients and evaluate the best approach to solve their medical conditions with and without surgery.
Don graduated from the University of Mississippi and from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1964. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and was able to enter medical school a year early due to his high academics. Don completed his internship and a residency in General Surgery through the University of Texas Medical Branch at John Sealy Hospital in 1966. He and Mary then moved to Gainesville, Florida where he completed his residency specializing in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at The University of Florida College of Medicine, Shands Hospital. Don served his country as an Army doctor at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia as the Hospital Specialized Treatment Center Chief of the Otolaryngology Clinic until moving to Pensacola, Florida where he went into private practice in 1971. While practicing medicine in Pensacola, Don served as President of the Medical Staff at Sacred Heart Hospital and was a member of the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association, and the Escambia County Medical Society.
Throughout his life, Don was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, boating, and fishing. He loved being in the woods and spent hours deer hunting and even more time learning the land, trees, and enjoying nature. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and loved to cookout with family and friends. Don will be greatly missed.
