Delance Green

April 4, 1922 — September 16, 2013

DeLance (Bud) Green, age 91, joined his beloved wife, Norma in their eternal heavenly home on September 16, 2013. He was born the 4th of 5 children on April 4, 1922 in Urbana, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 sisters and 1 brother. At age 17 Bud moved to Miami, Florida to join his older brother, Charles, to work as a lifeguard and a bellhop on Miami Beach. He also served in the Navy during World War II. After the war he went to work for Pan American Airways where he met Elizabeth Norma Goode. They married on December 31, 1948 and raised their 3 children in Homestead, Florida. He worked hard all his life and sacrificed his personal desires for his children when they were young such as accompanying them on camping trips with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. After retiring from Pan Am he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in February 1984 where he dedicated much of his free time serving the church, especially helping widows with home and yard maintenance. He was a very good man always putting others before himself. He lived his life as a friend to everyone he met, never holding a grudge and always ready to give of his time and energy to help others. He was a lot like a real life version of George Bailey from "It's A Wonderful Life". In 1991 Bud and Norma moved from Homestead to Navarre, Florida to be closer to their daughter and her family, and later to DeFuniak Springs in 1998. After his beloved Norma died in 2003, Bud served as a volunteer at Healthmark Hospital for several years. He is survived by 1 sister, Betty Ogborn of Mattoon, Illinois; 3 children, son Charles and wife Alice Kaye of DeFuniak Springs, daughter Debra Jones and husband Lewis of Defuniak Springs, and daughter Susan Allen and husband David of Homestead, Florida; 6 grandchildren, Randall Curtis and wife Megan, Jared Allen, Jason, Anne, Belle and Christopher Jones; 4 great grandchildren, Ashton, Jenna, Shiloh and Vincent Curtis, all of DeFuniak Springs.
