Deborah Lou Godwin Snipes 1955-2009 Beloved daughter, cherished sister and loving mother, Deborah Lou Godwin Snipes fought a courageous battle against cancer and passed away October 9th, 2009. Debbie, first born of four daughters, was born in Pensacola, Florida in 1955 to Roy and Bobbie Godwin. Early on, Debbie's beautiful hands showcased her many talents, creating amazing art--in jewelry and needle work. As an "Air Force Brat" she was a world traveler and spent most of her young life in Asia and Europe, graduating in Madrid, Spain. She played the piano and guitar, had a love for animals, horseback riding, and literature. She was a leader, a problem solver and a good friend. She was a generous free spirit, a source of encouragement and love to all whose paths she crossed. First born and big sister of the 'Godwin Girls,' Debbie was the trailblazer. She was an inspiration to her three younger sisters with her sense of adventure and spontaneity. Debbie was always there with support, love, and a shoulder to lean on, often providing her younger siblings with inspiring pep talks. Debbie worked for many years with Mr. "T" and her special family at Key Insurance, Pensacola; and the Real Estate House, Gulf Breeze, FL. Left to treasure her memory are her daughter, Andrea Caputo, Washington, D.C.; her parents, Roy and Bobbie Godwin, Gulf Breeze; her sisters Beverley and (Larry) Garcia, El Paso, TX; Melissa and (Ray) Eagley, Gulf Breeze; Dena and (Danny) Hernandez, Washington, D.C. Nieces and nephews dear to Debbie are Marla (Wade White), Michael, Ryan (Dorothy), and Gillian Garcia of El Paso and Corpus Christi, TX; Tanner and Maddie Eagley of Gulf Breeze, and Chase Hernandez of Washington, D.C. and great niece, Fiona Garcia of Corpus Christi, TX. Her husband Sydney Snipes preceded her in death in 1999. One of many highlights and precious memories they shared included traveling throughout Europe on the Orient Express. The Godwin Family wishes to thank all those who loved Debbie and kept her close to their hearts with prayers and warm wishes. Please join us in a celebration of Debbie's life, Thursday October 15th, 2009 at 5pm. Arrangements entrusted to Rose Lawn Funeral Home of Gulf Breeze.
