Chuck Mccain

Charles "Chuck" McCain, age 83, died peacefully at his home on Pensacola Beach Thursday, March 26, 2009. Chuck was born to Charles George and Mary Alice McCain on July 3, 1925 in Kellerman, Tuscaloosa, County, Alabama. Charles was educated in public schools in Jefferson County, Alabama, with further studies at the University of Alabama Birmingham. He served in the United States Army, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer with 22 years of service. Concurrently, he worked and retired from the United States Steel Corporation, Finance Division at Birmingham, Atlanta and Pittsburgh. Chuck retired after 30 years of service in 1983. Chuck was a member of Saint Ann Catholic Church, Gulf Breeze and its' Missionary Church, Our Lady of Assumption on Pensacola Beach where he was well known for his culinary skills which he donated with love to both churches. He was also active in the Pensacola Beach Elks Lodge 497 and The Pensacola Beach Optimist Organization. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Edsel & Bill Wilkey, and his sister Myra Coats. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Virginia Wilkey, nephews, Kelly Defreitas, Charles Wilkey and William Wilkey, nieces, Lisa White and Alice Marie Felton. His special family, Bill Goodin, Johnny Holland, Bettye Davis, Carleen Wheeler, Eileen Cywanowitz and Lynn Cywanowitz all of whom will miss him dearly. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM in the chapel of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Pensacola Beach. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM by Msgr. Luke Hunt with assistance from Father Sean Knox and Father James Valenzeula , with reception immediately afterwards in the Hunt Hall. A private burial will be at 2:00 PM in Barrancas National Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Ken Turk, Kelly Defreitas, Scott Davis, Matt Davis, Dan McGrath and Cliff Taylor. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Our Lady of Assumption, 920 Via de Luna, Pensacola Beach , FL 32561.
