Bettye Skewes

Bettye H Skewes, of Gulf Breeze passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.
Bettye was born August 29, 1929 in Fairfield, Alabama to Starr and Mattie Hammett. She was the youngest of four children. She graduated Fairfield High School in 1947. Bettye worked for the telephone company until 1954 when she met and married Harold Ray Skewes. They were married for 42 years and together they raised three children. Bettye moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida after the death of her husband, to be closer to family.
Bettye was a long-standing member of Gulf Breeze Baptist Church. She faithfully sent handwritten notes of encouragement to those who were in need and get-well cards to the sick. Bettye never missed an opportunity to share with others, her love of Jesus, and the Bible.
She is survived by her three children Harold S. Skewes of Navarre, Florida; Mark J. Skewes of Port Allen, Louisiana and Kevin R. Skewes of Gulf Breeze Florida. She is also survived by five grandchildren.
There will be a time of visitation on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 10 - 11:00 AM at Rose Lawn Funeral Home, Gulf Breeze, FL. A funeral service will follow there at 11:00 AM. Bettye will be buried next to her husband in the Union Baptist Cemetery in Lipscomb, AL.
