Betty Lou Struchen, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2013. Known locally by many as "the candy lady," she delighted folks with her homemade fudge & chocolates. Those who knew her well will remember her great joy for life, and her ability to make everyone laugh with her funny jokes, dances and rhymes. Those who knew her in passing will remember her easy smile and thoughtfulness. Betty will be laid to rest in Minneapolis, next to her husband, Jack. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Mali, and son-in-law, Donn. She is survived by her son John and daughter-in-law, Kathy, her daughter Kitty, and son-in-law, Murf, her grandson David (& Amy), her granddaughter Deidre (& Josh), her great-grandchildren Ava & Jack, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Tanya, Michelle, and Gloria for the selfless giving of their time, energy & love, and to Shari & Sally of Emerald Coast Hospice for going above and beyond with their help & guidance. A special thanks goes to Dr. Bradley Hawkins for his endless care and attentive concern. Services and burial for Betty will take place in Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Fisher center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
