Mrs. Beatrice "Winkie" Buttrum, née Allen, 84, of Gulf Breeze, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 26th, 2022.
Winkie was born on August 10th, 1938, in Troup County, Georgia to James Redmond Blanton Allen and Mary Ann Pearlena Heard. She was the youngest of their five children.
Winkie married her devoted husband, Howard "Theo" Buttrum, on October 6, 1955. They were married for nearly 65 years before Theo passed away in 2020. Theo was a member of the United States Navy until his retirement in 1976, and for nearly thirty years they made friends and impacted lives in many different parts of the country before settling in Gulf Breeze in the 1970s.
Winkie was a loving mother and grandmother, and is survived by three daughters, Sharon "Kaye" Mason, Cindy O'Sullivan, and Dawn Manning; one son, Jimmy Buttrum; grandchildren Amber O'Sullivan, Nicole Wise, Julie Edwards, Ryan Dennis, Patrick O'Sullivan, Daniel O'Sullivan, Ashley Powell, Tyler Thompson, Trevor Buttrum, and Layla Buttrum; and many great-grandchildren.
Winkie was known in Gulf Breeze as a competitive softball coach, an avid tennis player, an active girl scout leader, a long-time member of the Red Hatters social club, and a member of the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church. After her children were grown, she enjoyed working for many years at McRae's department store.
Winkie was celebrated for her quick wit and her love of the Georgia Bulldogs. Her strong Southern personality made a lasting impression on all who knew her.
A visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 pm on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church. Her funeral service will begin at 12:00 at the church with interment to follow at 2:00 pm in Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola NAS.
