Andrew "Bert" McLeod, 95, of Gulf Breeze, passed away Thursday, June 4. McLeod was born August 10, 1913 in Los Angeles, California. Born and raised in Southern California, he graduated from Lincoln High School. He attended Pasadena City College studying art which launched a lifelong passion for painting and drawing. He served as an officer in WW II, where he saw intense combat in the Pacific and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor. He met Dorothy Lamar Terry during the war and they married after a whirlwind engagement. The couple settled in Pasadena, California where his children were raised. A salesman at heart, he represented printing companies, including Pacific Press, and also acted as a printing and advertising broker. He loved fishing and boating, and maintained motor or sailboats most of his adult life. In later years he moved to San Diego, California to be nearer his sister. McLeod moved to Gulf Breeze in 1999. Always active, he was often seen tooling about Gulf Breeze in a well-worn red Mustang convertible, delivering small, framed portraits of Jesus to anyone willing to accept them. His indomitable optimism helped him weather the sorrows of his life; his family was his greatest joy. McLeod was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew McLeod, Sr. and Johanna Raatz McLeod; his dear sister Dorothea McLeod Lockwood, infant firstborn daughter Terry Lynn, and his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Terry McLeod. McLeod is survived by his son David A. McLeod and his wife Lila of Sun Valley, Idaho; son Robert L. McLeod of Fresno, California; daughter Elizabeth McLeod Yelverton and her husband Basil, of Gulf Breeze; and daughter Dana McLeod-Lane and her husband Bruce Lane of Kent, Washington. He was blessed with six granddaughters: Terry McLeod Harris (Jody), Julieanne McLeod Averill (Jack), Elizabeth McLeod Echeveste (Rene) , Emily McLeod, Leah Yelverton, and Rita Yelverton, as well as a great-grandson ,Gabriel Echeveste. He delighted in his nephews Victor Lockwood (Onda), Larry Lockwood, and Joel Lockwood (Lori), all of La Jolla, California. The family wishes to thank many people for their compassionate care, especially all of the staff at The Villas of Gulf Breeze, Drs. Zimmern, Garner, and Barrineau, and Danny and Tom Robinson of Robinson Automotive. He enjoyed the help and fellowship of members of Gulf Breeze Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 12, at 2 pm at Barrancas National Cemetery.
