ALEX JOSEPH CAMERO
May 19, 1993 – August 26, 2024
The “extra-ordinary” songbird in our lives, who spread joy with his incredible presence, voice, lyrics, and smile, joined our Lord as his “Papi” gently played guitar and sang, while his family prayed and sang at his side. He will be forever in our midst, and we will think of him in joy, finding our own ability to smile. Alex touched us all with his unique charm.
A New Orleans native, Alex attended St. Angela Merici School, Christian Brothers School, Brother Martin High School (Honors 2011), and Loyola University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Music Industry Studies (Cum Laude 2014). During his university tenure, he attended an exchange program in the Music Department of the Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia. It was there where he met his dear friends Carlos “Charli” Triana and Nicolas “Nico” Cantor whom he collaborated with to continue to create beautiful music, subsequently write over 100 songs, and especially realize his dream of completing his music album “MIST”, which will release later this year.
Alex is survived by parents, Sharon Welcker Camero (mother), Luis Francisco Camero, MD (father), Shelly Serpas Camero, MD; brothers, Luis Nicolas “Nico” and Cole Camero; paternal grandparents, Cecilia Rojas and Francisco Camero, MD and numerous loving relatives. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert Joseph Welcker and Jeanne Marie Giese Welcker, and paternal uncle, Juan Carlos Camero, MD. Alex returned to the US and over the last two years on his journey, he continued to establish deep and meaningful friendships, especially with Lori Kay Chambers and Mary Muller.
Thank you to all who have known and loved Alex and continue to pray for his peace and everlasting joy.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Alex’s passion for music by sending donations to the Ellis Marsalis Music Center/Musician’s Village in New Orleans, LA.
