Violette Kandalaft

September 17, 1924 — June 6, 2015

Violette Kandalaft, age 90, Gulf Breeze, died June 6, 2015, at Bayside Manor Skilled Nursing Facility after her long battle with dementia. Violette Kandalaft, the daughter of Yacoub and Marie Srouji, was born on September 17,1924,in Haifa, where she lived until her marriage to Jalil Kandalaft, a respectable gentleman from Jerusalem who had provided and cared for her and their two loving daughters, Randa and Lamia. The couple lived in Egypt and then Kuwait. After Jalil's death, Violette moved to Lebanon where she lived and raised their two daughters as a single mother. During the last 30 years of her life, she came to settle in the United States as a new American citizen living with her daughter, Lamia Rollins, and her family in different locations around the U.S. and overseas. Gulf Breeze has been her home since 2001 where the family settled during her daughter's final tour of duty and eventual retirement from the Navy. Violette was a loving and caring mother and grandmother, and to those who knew her well, she was known as "Teita", which means "Grandma" in Arabic. Throughout her life span, she had seen both happy and sad times. She had many happy childhood memories of growing up in a loving family with five siblings. She had memories of Bella, her best friend growing up, and memories of her marriage to Jalil. Her happiest times, by far, were when she was spending time with and caring for her daughters and her grandsons, Mazen, Ziad, Patrick, and Kevin. Her devotion to her family was unmatched! Violette, a homemaker all her life, left a positive impact on her family. Her grandsons' love for her and for their families is an example of the effect she had on their upbringing. A compassionate, caring, loyal, and loving wife, mother and grandmother; she will be terribly missed and always fondly remembered because of the amazing person she was throughout her life. Violette is survived by her daughters, Randa Akkaoui and Lamia Rollins, and their families. A time of visitation will be held from 10 to 11:00 AM with funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 11th at Rose Lawn Funeral Home, 2942 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563.
