Maxine Gray

July 20, 1922 — March 14, 2015

Maxine M Gray, age 92, of Gulf Breeze passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015. She was born in Colfax, Iowa to Carl and Pearl Staker, she attended grade school and high school in Mingo, Iowa and continued with 2 years of higher education at the University of Iowa, where she met and married Richard L Gray in 1941. They lived in Burlington, Iowa for 2 years and then to Buffalo, New York for 14 years before moving to Gulf Breeze in 1958. She was the office manager for the Gulf Breeze Water Company where she helped newcomers settle into a friendly community. Maxine was an Iowa farm girl who developed a love for music which she followed her entire life. She was constantly using her music talents as well as raising her family. She and her family traveled extensively over the United States making friends wherever they went. Maxine always waited until after church to leave and always had to get back to church again in time to play the organ. She was the organist for the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church from 1958 to 1988 and Organist Emeritus to the present. She played at country clubs, dinner clubs, building dedications, Easter Sunrise services at Pensacola Beach and numerous weddings and funerals at most of the churches in Gulf Breeze, Pensacola Beach and Pensacola. Maxine was preceded in death by son Donald Gray (1991), husband Richard Gray (2004) and son Robert Gray (2004). She is survived by a son, David (Christine) Gray, a daughter Patti (Ken) Jensen, six grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-granddaughter. A visitation will be at the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church from 10 to 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 19, 2015. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Gerald Munday at 11:00 AM in a celebration of her life with a reception following afterwards. A private interment will be at 1:00 PM in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Gulf Breeze. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Fairpoint Campus Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church Senior Ministries Fund. Arrangements entrusted to Rose Lawn Funeral Home of Gulf Breeze.
