Ms. Kazuko (Kay or Momo) Osanai Law, daughter of the late Yoshiyuki and Miyoshi Osanai, of Fukuoka, Japan was born on August 6, 1929 in Kitami City, Hokkaido and was called to her Lord on January 29, 2017 at age 87. She spent her formative years in Japan and China studying traditional Japanese art forms including folk, semi-classical and classical dance, tea ceremony, origami, temari, and Japanese doll-making. In 1948 Momo met and married an American Airman who brought her to the United States where she raised her family and worked as a tailor and cultural teacher. Momo is survived by her two daughters, Chieri Esposito of Gulf Breeze, Florida and Anita Broeren of Champaign, Illinois as well as 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Momo was an active leader by bringing traditional Japanese art forms to the Florida Panhandle and beyond thus awarded the Florida Folk Heritage and Merit Awards in 1996. Since she came to Florida in 1978 she donated her time and craftsmanship to local schools, colleges, churches, and organizations to inspire them to learn more about Japanese culture. Her passion for educating and teaching others about Japanese art forms led her to also donate a significant amount of time to the Japan House at the University of West Florida. Momo was kind, gentle, and wise with a quick wit. She was an avid sports fan but her passion was baseball, specifically the Chicago Cubs. She was an enduring spirit who touched the hearts and souls of everyone she met. Her kindness and caring nature were infectious. Her passion for teaching and educating will be missed but not forgotten. Her legacy will continue through the lives she influenced and by those who continue to practice, learn and educate those around them about the beauty, elegance, precision, patience, and complexity of Japanese culture and arts.
